In September and October 2023, the Amazon witnessed thick layers of smoke blanketing the region, a result of rampant wildfires exacerbated by severe drought. During the first two weeks of November 2023, a staggering 2,387 fires ravaged the Amazon region, which were attributed to extreme drought conditions. The fire sweeping through Brazil's rainforests represents a major threat to local wildlife. They've destroyed the habitat of protected species and led many animals to die of asphyxiation. Over the years, various scientists and organizations have reported that animal-people-meat-based production and consumption of animal-folk have a massive impact on Earth’s environment.

Let’s listen to the urgent message of Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) about the quickest way to save our precious planet Earth. “Because our animal friends are suffering terribly due to the effects of global warming. We have to act now for all of humanity. Because along with our own survival and health, there is an entire planet that is in trouble, and everyone needs to be vegan to save it.” Many ecosystems and wildlife face severe risks from heat waves, droughts, and other climate extremes. The intense drought that swept across Brazil’s Amazon affected an area that’s home to the world's second-largest population of jaguar-people.

Gustavo Figueiroa, “… this many fires isn’t normal.” “We've seen a range of dead animals, including insects, reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, which are unable to flee.” Scientists warn that the planet is on the brink of a mass extinction event due to escalating climate change. A recent scientific analysis published in the journal Nature Geoscience in November 2023, reached the alarming conclusion that marine extinction has begun due to the spread of oceanic deoxygenation, known as anoxia. Professor Hans-Otto Poertner further cautions, “Any further delay in concerted global action… will miss a brief and rapidly closing window to secure a liveable future.”
