Each year, more than two billion metric tons of human-generated waste are discarded globally, negatively impacting our environment and ecosystems. Notably, around20% of human-related methane emissions originate from open waste landfill sites. And approximately 19 to 23 million tons of plastic waste are discarded into our oceans each year. Recycling is a simple yet impactful method for conserving resources and minimizing your carbon footprint. Collecting and using rainwater can reduce the amount of water we draw from other sources, helping to preserve them for future generations.

As consumers, it’s crucial to consider the environmental impact of the products we buy, not only during their use but also after disposal. The fast fashion industry is also a major player in the climate crisis, accounting for up to 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions. Many people may not fully realize that our habit of bulk buying might not be the best choice for the planet’s health. But we have the power to make a change and become more responsible consumers. Whether it’s groceries, clothing, accessories, or household products, buying only what you truly need can reduce the amount of waste you generate and, in turn, lower pollution levels. Individual efforts are extremely helpful; it’s crucial that we all understand our role in protecting our planet. There are numerous ways to contribute, from running online awareness campaigns and participating in beach clean-ups to organizing events and joining climate action rallies. One study estimated that if everyone ate a vegan diet – with lots of fresh fruit and veg, around eight million deaths could be avoided around the world by 2050.
